Poirier Community Centre Reno

Date: 2018

Location: Coquitlam

Description:

The Poirier Community Centre (PCC) is a community facility in Coquitlam BC, constructed in the late 1960s for Canada’s Centennial. The renovation includes improvements to the building’s performance and significant functional and aesthetic improvements in public areas. The existing courtyard is not easily accessible, presents maintenance problems, and — combined with the circulation space around it — occupies a significant amount of floor area. The new design adds accessible entry points to the courtyard, provides hardscape for informal seating, while incorporating low-maintenance planting. The concrete seating form a smooth curve around the space, and the courtyard becomes a permeable and inviting focal point for the facility.
