Gingham Style

Date: 2014
Location: Surrey, BC
WINNER of the Surrey PARKit competition

Description:

The design inspiration for ‘Gingham Style’ is based on the centuries old, quintessential checkered pattern that has been used for lining picnic baskets or covering tables of outdoor cafes. By utilizing this pattern in the design, our intent is to create a space that plays on the notion of an outdoor picnic.

A ribbon of gingham pattern connects four tables and a fabric canopy. The pattern will unexpectedly run from the tables, vertically up the existing columns and across the canopy creating a playful and unique space. Moveable seating boxes will be covered with a vinyl image wrap of lawn to suggest the idea of sitting on grass. String lights will be hung underneath the canopy to illuminate the space and provide some ambiance in the evening.
